James Cunningham was born in 1880 in Kilkel, County Down. He moved with his family to live in Workington, Cumberland and enlisted in the 8th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers for service in WWI. He was posted to Gallipoli on 13 September 1915 and Died at Sea from Dysentery whilst aboard HMS Nevasa on 23 November 1915 at the age of 35.
He weas survived by his mother, Mary Cunningham, of 39 Bolton Street, Workington.
