Edward Norman Andrews was born in 1897 in Hampstead and was the son of a Medical Doctor. He attended the Royal Military College at Sandhurst and graduated to 2nd Lieutenant in December 1917. His departure for the Front was delayed by a broken arm. He entered France with the 3rd Battalion East Kent Regiment (The Buffs) in July 1918 and was Wounded in Action whilst leading his platoon at Albert on 22.8.1918. He Died of his Wounds in a Casualty Clearing Station the next day and is buried in the Daours Communal Cemetery.

A brother officer wrote of him, " He led his platoon with complete disregard of danger, encouraging the men until wounded. His bravery and devotion to duty were an inspiration to his platoon."
