John Blackburn was, perhaps appropriately, from Blackburn in Lancashire. Born in Mellor on 30 July 1884 he served with the 6th (Service) Battalion of the East Lancashire Regiment and was with them, as part of the 38th Brigade, in Mesopotamia. His regiment actively participated in the engagements in the run-up to the second and decisive battle of Kut and he was Wounded in Action, later dying of his wounds on 20 February 1917.

His next of kin was his mother, Mary Jane Blackburn of West View, Mellor, Blackburn.

He is remembered with honour in the Amara War Cemetery.

Medals are in good condition unless indicated otherwise. Sold together with copied research.
