William Thomas Watts was born in Norton, Suffolk in 1887. He served with the 9th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment in WWI and was posted to France on 16 December 1915. He died of wounds in the Edinburgh War Hospital on 15 May 1916 after he had been shipped home, possibly after an assault on Ypres Salient.
He was reported Wounded in Action on 4 March 1916. He was survived by his widow, Eva Maria - they had married two years earlier in 1914 - of Norton Hall, near Bury St Edmunds. His daughter had been born in October 1915.
He is buried at the Baptist chapel in the village.
