Frederick John Rayner Simpson was born in Uxbridge in 1888 the son of a Dentist. He was a Medical Student when war broke out and enlisted in 1914 with the 5th Bn Middlesex Regiment. He was sent to France on 19.11.1915 having been commissioned as an Intelligence & Observation Officer in May 1915, attached to the 4th Bn. He was KIA on the first day of the Battle of Pilckelm Ridge, Ypres on 31.7.1917.
He is remembered on the Menin Gate Memorial.
It was said of him when he was at Kings College School in Wimbledon that he was "A fine Cricketer."
