5044 Pte. Henry Joseph Webb, GLOUC.R. was born in Headley, Hants in 1886 He attested for service at Winchester on 14.3.1916 and was Killed in Action in Flanders on 16.8.1917 with 3/5 Gloucesters and with no. 241819.
He is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial in Belgium.
3/4th, 3/5th and 3/6th Battalions were formed at home stations in 1915 as depot/training (“third line”) units. Moved to Weston-super-Mare. On 8 April 1916 became Reserve Battalions and 4th then absorbed 5th and 6th on 1 September 1916 at Ludgershall. Moved to Cheltenham in winter 1916-17, Catterick in March 1917, Horton in July 1917 and finally Seaton Delaval in October 1917 for duty with Tyne Garrison.
