Memorial Plaque (PHILIP LAWTON HOLMES)

Philip Lawton Holmes was born on 30 September 1883 in Radcliffe, Lancashire. Before enlisting for service in WWI he was charged at Bury on 24 October 1914 for "unlawfully and knowingly by certain false pretences, obtaining from Joseph Barlow, the sum of £3, his monies, with the intent to cheat and defraud." He was found Not Guilty by the Chairman on 7 December 1914 and discharged.

This must have been especially traumatic for the family as his son, Brian Nelson Lawton, was born on 21 October 1914 - a week after he was charged and granted bail for the aforementioned offence.

Losing no time he enlisted with the 7th Battalion, Kings Royal Rifle Corps and was assigned to C Company. He was posted to France on 19 May 1915 and was Killed in Action a few months later, on 22 November 1915 at the age of 32.

A Printer by trade, he was the son of a Medical Doctor. He is buried in the La Brique Military Cemetery.

Plaque is in good condition unless otherwise indicated. Includes some research. Additionally entitled to a 1914-15 Star; British War Medal and Victory Medal which are not included.
