Henry John Roberts was born in Winchester, Hants in 1873. A Gardener by the time of the 1891 census, he moved to India where he enlisted with the Indian Ordnance Dept with whom he is recorded as serving at Quetta in 1912. He went with his regiment to France on 27 September 1914.
His WWI medals were issued by the Indian Government.
