Edgar Stanley Glasnevin Gale was born in Islington, London in 1891. He enlisted for service with the 4th battalion, Essex Regiment in 1910 and served with them in the Balkans (Dardanelles) from 11 August 1915. He was taken very ill with Dysentery and returned to the UK where a Medical Board found him to be debilitated. He remained serving at home and was assigned a new number, 204213 at Ampthill on 13 May 1918.
He was awarded the Territorial Efficiency Medal in May 1919
According to the 1939 Register he was living at 41/7 Minories, (Ibex House) in the City of London where he was employed as a Clerical Officer with H M Customs & Excise. He was also serving with the Auxiliary Fire Service with whom he probably earned the Defence Medal.
He died in Rochford, Essex on 12 September 1971.
