Cecil Ernest Aston was born on 15 July 1899 in Brighton, Sussex. He served with the Royal Navy Air Service with no. 234412 from 1 July 1917, transferring to the R.A.F. on 1.4.1918 when that body came into existence. A Post Office Sorting Clerk, he was mustered as a Leading Aircraftsman/ Corporal Mechanic until his discharge on 3.2.1919.

According to the 1921 census he was an Accountant's Articled Clerk living at home with his parents (his father was a Dentist) at 35 Howard Road, Southampton.

He was promoted from Flight Lieutenant to Squadron Leader on 7 December 1937

Continuing his service in WWII he served with the RAF in North Africa and was 4 x MID as Wing Commander, R.A.F., with Service Number 11104 on 1 January 1942, 11 June 1942, 2 June 1943 and again, in the New Year Honours List, Gazette 1 Jan 1946. He received the 1953 Coronation Medal whilst a Group Captain at St. Athan's.

He died in the Fenwick Hospital, Lyndhurst on 18 December 1974. His address at the time was White Cottage, Fritham, Lyndhurst.
