Evelynne Haywood Terry Love was born in East London, South Africa in 1892. He enlisted as a Constable with the South African Police on 17 August 1912 and bought his discharge to enlist with the 5th South African Infantry in 1915 for service in German East Africa. Like most European soldiers, he contracted Malaria in the pestilent tropical climate and was repatriated to South Africa. Having recovered he attested for service with the 2nd South African Infantry for service in France and Flanders on 15 March 1917 with no. 13122.
Once in France he suffered an attack of appendicitis and was removed to hospital not returning to the theatre of war. He was then repatriated to South Africa where he rejoined the South African Police in September 1919. He retired Medically Unfit in October 1935 and passed away in East London, South Africa on 19 August 1961
