Robert Percy Smith was born in Kentish Town in 1893. He served with both the 2nd and the 3rd London Regt in WWI and the 4th Ban Royal Fusiliers in Iraq in the early 1920's. He was sent to France on 6.1.1915 and was reported WIA on 22 September 1917
In 1921 he was stationed at Dagshai in India before moving to Iraq with his battalion, the 4th Royal Fusiliers (London Regiment - they were stationed in Iraq as part of the British mandate period and were involved in maintaining order and security in the region, including responding to unrest and communal rioting. Notably, the battalion participated in the first known deployment of troops by air during a 1924 incident in Kirkuk, where a detachment was flown in to quell rioting
According to the 1939 Register he was living at No 17 Maitland Park Villas, Chalk Farm, Camden and was a Plate Glass Packer by occupation.
He died in Westminster in January 1980.
