Frederick Robert Cox was born in 1885. Having enlisted with the Army Ordnance Corps, he served in France from 6 November 1915 as an Armament Staff Sergeant. He was awarded the Long Service & Good Conduct Medal in 1933 and the 1937 Coronation Medal as a Sergeant with .HQ No 17 Group.
According to the 1921 census he was an Armament Artificer with the RAOC working at The Fort, Newhaven and living at 72 Lawes Avenue, Newhaven.
