Ridley Robson Miller was born in Tynemouth, Northumberland in 1895. Having enlisted with the RAMC he entered WWI as part of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force and was admitted to hospital in Malta ex H.S. Ascania with Dysentery on 25 August 1915. He was attached to 11 Division HQ at the time. His Medal Index Card reports that he was sent to the Balkans on 18.12.1915. He was M.I.D. in LG 28.1.1919 for Salonika "For gallant conduct and distinguished services rendered during the period from the 1st March to the 1st October 1918."
He was discharged and awarded the scarce 9 carat gold Tynemouth Tribute Medal.
The 1939 register has him living at Seacrest Avenue, Tynemouth where he was described as Chief Assistant, Public Assistant's Office, Northumberland C.C.
He would have served in some capacity of other for 3 years and more in WWII to have qualified for the award of the Defence Medal.
Miller passed away at his home in August 1977.
