Richard Parker Ward was born in Blackburn in 1896. He attested for service with the South Lancashire Regiment in 1916, transferring to the Military Foot Police in 1917 and, finally, to the ASC where he served with the Heavy Repair Shop in France. He was discharged in 1919 - his address being that of his parents - 162 New bank Road, Blackburn.

He later joined the Blackburn Fire Brigade, serving with them as an Engineer. He was awarded their LSGCM medal in 1941. According to the 1939 Register he was an Engineer at the Fire Station living at 32 Sumner Street, Blackburn.

He died on 10 August 1985 at Weedon in Northampton
