Albert Sydney Orchard Jefferies served in both World Wars. He was born in Portsea, Hants on 2 April 1888 and joined the Royal Navy on 2 April 1906 as a Boy 2nd Class. He was aboard HMS Exmouth, one of the vessels on hand to assist when the devastating earthquake occurred at Messina, Italy in 1908.
He had progressed to Able Seaman by the time WWI broke out and spent most of the war aboard Brittania. He transferred to the Royal Fleet Reserve on 15 February 1919 and was awarded his Long Service & Good Conduct Medal on 29 April 1921.
During the Inter-War period he advanced to Petty Officer and was shore pensioned on 31 December 1927. According to the 1939 Register he was a Petty Officer (On Leave) serving aboard HMY Diana and living in Salisbury, Wilts.
His WWII service was confirmed as was his commissioning to Temporary Sub Lieutenant (Special Branch.) He was discharged on 22 November 1944 and, in the London Gazette of 6 May 1947 was confirmed a Temporary Lieutenant with seniority from 1 January 1947.
He passed away at the Salisbury Infirmary, Wiltshire on 4 November 1950
