Arthur Pogson was born in Meltham, Yorks in 1913. He served in WWII with the 1st Bn Yorks & Lancs Regiment and was Wounded in Action in Sicily on 6 August 1943.

According to the 1939 Register he was a Boot and Shoe Repairer living at 134 Lane, Meltham.

A newspaper article in the Huddersfield Examiner of 13 October 1978 informed its readers that Pogson had retired after being a popular Postman in the village of Meltham for 21 years. Prior to that he had worked for a grocery store for 30 years after starting out his working life as a Boot and Shoe repairer - this last tallies with his occupation in the 1939 Register.

He died in Huddersfield in August 1986
