Henry Frank Hamilton was born in Newtown Wilts in 1884. He served with the 10th Hampshire Regiment in WWI and was sent to Gallipoli on 5.8.1915. A mere SIXTEEN days later, on 21 August 1915, he was Killed in Action at Salonika.
The 10th Hampshire Regiment formed part of the 29th Brigade and had suffered heavily since their arrival in Gallipoli, during the assault on Sari Bair, the Turkish counter attack at Chunuk Bair , and the fighting in between. On 21 August 1915 the 10th Hampshires were ordered up from reserve and were brought to a halt by the Turkish barrage, and only one man of the battalion succeeded in reinforcing the leading troops. After dusk the 10th Hampshires - now less than 200 strong - were sent to establish more firmly the line of the Indian Brigade between Hill 60 and Susak Kuyu. Hamilton was one of the casualties on that day.
His next of kin was his wife Louisa who lived at Daka Cottage, Andover near Shrewsbury.
